WHEAT FROM THE CHAFF

DO YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR BEST FRIEND?

Amy and Claire are the best of friends. They’ve shared everything, mopped each other’s tears, laughed until they cried.

Now, Amy’s outward persona as the bright and cheerful golden girl has been intensified by her new, secret romance. But the reality is somewhat different. There are troubles at the farm and a dark cloud is casting a shadow over both women. A shadow that, for Claire, brings to the surface some unresolved and long buried feelings that she’d rather not face.

So when the winds of change blow through their friendship, can it survive?

And will the men in their lives be their saviours, or their downfall?

For lovers of family drama, romance and relationship novels.

Piercing the Surface is a book constructed of two parts; Part one, set on the Kent coast, follows Caroline from childhood as she begins her journey to adulthood. She finds herself having to deal with family relationships and friendships under a dark cloud of challenging and heartbreaking events. In part two, we find the adult Caroline living a busy yet somewhat insular life in Cornwall. But she meets a man who intrigues her and she is conflicted by her feelings for him. Then, the past resurfaces and Caroline has to revisit the events that she’d rather stayed buried.

What’s the underlying theme to Piercing the Surface?

The bonds of family feature strongly, as do friendships and what they mean to us – the good and the bad. It’s about the growing pains of young girls, struggling sometimes to discern right from wrong, having understood and accepted that all adults are trustworthy and have their best interests at heart. It explores how many people are living a life that they don’t truly want; fitting in to others expectations of them. But also, it’s about how life can surprise you, how you can come up to the surface and gulp fresh air, sometimes because of the people you least expect to help you.

Breaking Eggshells is set in a riverside village in the UK, where a family–the Saxbys–live. Diana and the late John Saxby moved there before the birth of their two daughters, Amanda and Maddy.

Amanda’s husband, Dan, admits to his affair with a local woman which throws her life completely off kilter. When he moves out to be with his new love, Amanda now has to face life as a single parent. The shock of betrayal, together with the discovery of her sister’s destructive behaviour, makes her reassess every aspect of her life. Examining her relationships, not just with Dan, but with family and friends, makes her realise things need to change. Enigmatic Aunt Julia is just the catalyst Amanda needs to shake things up and begin the long road to recovery and to becoming the woman she was meant to be.

What’s the underlying theme to Breaking Eggshells?

The book is a story of love, romance, and hope. The hope that springs despite infidelity and loss of trust. I would like to think that anyone who reads Breaking Eggshells and identifies with Amanda, will find inspiration in her story and might, perhaps, believe that sometimes things happen for a reason. The book also touches on the themes of parents favouring one child over another, and how the dynamics of a family can manipulate and belittle some members. It tells how sometimes the truth becomes distorted over the decades, and that there is a real danger that we can all close ourselves off to new experiences and relationships by clinging on to past events.

Mostly, Breaking Eggshells will (I hope) entertain the reader. Don’t forget, the book is available on Amazon so you can use the ‘Look Inside’ feature on the paperback version, or get a sample sent to your ereader of the ebook version. This will give you a feel for the book.

I hope you enjoy it.
